The concept and book by David Graeber an anthropologist who studied and wrote about BS jobs. Found that around 40% of modern jobs could be classed as BS jobs as they added nothing to the production or deliver of goods or services. It's amazing that a market driven economic system would allow such a high percentage of jobs to have so little impact to the productivity or profitability of a company. But if you zoom out a bit further than the companies profit margin, there are other factors in play e.g. a manager who manages a larger team is a better manager.
