“Sam asked me not to call Anthropic a supply chain risk” — Emil Michael(DoD Under Secretary for Research & Engineering)

I've seen pretty much every media outlet & voice in the AI space in the last few days paint Sam as trying to opportunistically take advantage of the Anthropic fallout with the DoD to advance OpenAI’s self-interest but Emil Michael, the main DoD guy in talks with the AI companies, in a recent interview with the All-in podcast about the whole DoD and Anthropic conflict told a different story. A few points from Emil: Sam didn’t reach out to the DoD, it was Emil who called Sam because he was concerned about what might happen if the Anthropic situation went sideways and needed solutions.
