Open Source AI
The GTC token compensation story has been covered as a recruiting perk. It's not. It's the first move in building a commodity market for AI compute, and understanding why tells you about AI's near-term trajectory than any model release. Here's the problem. AI companies are hemorrhaging money. OpenAI: $17B cash burn projected this year. Anthropic: spending $19B against roughly break-even revenue. A $20/month AI subscription can cost the provider $163 in compute. The subscription model is structurally broken, and everyone in the industry knows it. The fix is metered, per-token billing.
