Data Governance Governs What Exists. AI Governance Governs What Is Generated. That Changes Everything. Why treating AI Governance as “just an extension” of Data Governance gets it wrong, and what to do about it before 2 August 2026. I keep seeing the same debate pop up on LinkedIn, at conferences, in vendor s. People asking: should Data Governance come before AI Governance? Are they the same thing? Are they complementary? Honestly, we’re asking the wrong questions. The real difference between the two isn’t about which team owns what, or which program you build first.
