The fact that Apple's Board of Directors chose someone who has built their career on the hardware side speaks volumes. Apple's gamble suggests they believe the future of AI lies in hardware, not software. Apple clearly isn't trying to compete with Google, OpenAI, or Anthropic by having an LLM model. But it does seem to believe that its platform (the i, with its advanced processor, can deliver models locally on the instead of from the cloud.
