Are SDXL based fine tunes still the best option for anime in 2026?

I want to create a comfyui workflow to generate anime style images and while browsing for a base workflow to build off of, it got me thinking, should I go with a newer model like z-image, flux klein or qwen or stick to one of the OG fine tunes like illustrious or pony? Stable diffusion seems to have the biggest ecosystem of not just anime but just about every other type of style or lora etc compared to the very few handful for newer models. Still I did see some anime fine-tunes for newer models.
