Every serialization step is a one-way door - whatever information the text can’t carry is gone before reasoning even begins. There’s a moment every ML engineer hits - sooner or later - when they realize that their beautifully orchestrated LLM agent is doing something embarrassing. You give it a 50-step time series. It stares at the numbers, serializes them into tokens, “reasons” over them with all the confidence of a PhD candidate, and spits out… the last observed value. Repeated ten times. Like a broken record wearing a graduation cap. That’s not a prompt engineering problem.
