Are local models becoming “good enough” faster than expected?

One thing we’ve been noticing lately is that a surprisingly large percentage of day-to-day AI workflows no longer seem to require frontier-scale cloud models 24/7. For a lot of practical tasks: code explanation structured edits summarization retrieval-heavy workflows boilerplate generation lightweight agents …smaller/local models are getting close enough that the economics start looking very different.
