The singularity probably won't be a hardware story (an AI suddenly becoming superintelligent), but a political one. cracies will erode to the point where handing power to AI feels like a reasonable choice driven by citizens already warming to the idea, deepfakes destroying trust in elections, and AI companies embedding themselves in government faster than regulators can push back. A quarter of Europeans in this year's WEF poll already prefer AI governance to politicians. A peer-reviewed SSRN paper argues for replacing cracy outright on cognitive-capacity grounds.
