Google I/O 2026 Made Me Realize AI Agents Are Becoming Real Development Infrastructure

This is a submission for the Google I/O Writing Challenge Google I/O 2026 made one thing increasingly clear to me: AI is slowly moving beyond isolated chatbot experiences and becoming part of actual development infrastructure. For a long time, most conversations around AI focused primarily on model intelligence: benchmark improvements, larger context windows, better reasoning, faster responses, and multimodal capabilities. Those advancements matter, but this year’s announcements highlighted something equally important: The ecosystem around AI is becoming significantly usable for developers.
