I have used all three of these tools heavily over the past year. Claude Code for the last eight months, Cursor for about two years, and GitHub Copilot even longer than that. My opinions here are not based on benchmark articles or sponsored takes. They are based on actual daily use across multiple projects, side products, and client work. The AI coding tool landscape in 2026 looks nothing like it did in 2024. Claude Code launched in May 2025 and by early 2026 had a 46% "most loved" rating among developers, compared to Cursor at 19% and GitHub Copilot at 9.
