Why is everyone suddenly talking about “data mesh” but nobody seems to actually be using it? [D]

I keep seeing data mesh in every analytics job posting and conference talk, but when I ask engineers at actual companies, they shrug. Is this genuinely being adopted at scale or is it still a consultant buzzword?
